The Quartertones: A collaboration of four classically trained jazz musicians along with two local veteran hip-hop producers, The Quartertones bring the Funk, Jazz-Hip Hop fusion to another level. Experimental and progressionist in their approach, The Quartertones emerge as a fusion band combining Bob James, Grant Green, and Roy Ayers, with an organic hip-hop feel. In brief, the sound is live Hip-Hop, Jazz and Funk performed over a drum machine, with a DJ. The Quartertones are at the forefront of Toronto's organic rare-groove scene, providing the audience with the latest soulful sounds. Formed in 1996 as a strictly instrumental jazz band they began to receive attention when they were further introduced to the local circuit at Torontos first live-band hip-hop show with an open mic event, Freestylin' in 1997. Members of the Quartertones have worked and performed with various and style-varied artists, including DJ Spinna, Abs & Fase, LAL, The Oddities, Pocket Dwellers, Birdapres, Circle Research, Moka Only, and LEN. Having released their first full length CD, "Hidden In Plain Sight" last year, The Quartertones are presently working on their follow up slated for an early 2007 street date. http://www.thequartertones.com
