Front woman Michie Mee is the queen of Canadian hip hop. Michie holds the distinction of
being the first female MC in Canada to sign to US record deal
Since she began in 1987, she has successfully performed and recorded with internationally
reknowned and respected artists and was the first Canadian rapper to gain a recording deal
with a major U.S. label. In 1987, Michie was featured on Break'n Out an all Canadian
compilation that was produced by the late Scott La Rock and KRS-ONE, (B.D.P.). In 1988
she signed an international recording contract with First Priority/Atlantic and released her
first album "Jamaican Funk - Canadian Style".
Throughout her career she has recorded with MC Lyte, Shabba Ranks, Dream Warriors,
Pinchers, and Patra. She has performed live on countless occasions, opening for Jazzy Jeff
and the Fresh Prince, Salt and Pepa, Heavy D and LL Cool J, as well as touring with Sinead
O'Connor on her Canadian tour.
She has also toured with Audio two, Queen Latifah and fellow Canadians, Dream Warriors
and Maestro Fresh Wes. Michie also performed at "Sting" a concert in Jamaica that attracted
over 70,000 people.
Michie has also expanded her talents outside of music. A member of ACTRA, she has acted
in movies and television shows such as Short Circuit 2, Night Heat, La Femme Nikita(CTV),
and has made a special appearance co-hosting TSN's "Off The Record". She is also co-host
of Canada's longest running rap radio show, The Powermove Show on CKLN Radio in
Toronto. The energy and vibrance that she brings to her work is well-respected and liked and
Michie is often asked to host events which she does regularly on a volunteer basis. Besides
working on new material. Michie is also a featured vocalist in the metal/funkadelic group
The Day After formally called Raggadeath.
Michie has used her experience in the entertainment world to create a successful career for
herself on the small screen with CBC TV’s SMART ASK and the ground breaking hip hop
series DROP THE BEAT. Michie Mee is beating a path to the big screen where she has
appeared in the blockbuster "In Too Deep" starring LL Cool J/Omar Epps, My Baby'z Mama
with Eddie Griffin, and the soon to be released "Chicks With Sticks", featuring Jason
Priestly.
