DJ Cheeba (named due to his relaxed attitude towards life) has been a very active individual in the Toronto hiphop community since '96. Spinning soulful hiphop, funk and soul, he has a tremendous passion for everything hiphop (graffiti, breakdancing, emceeing and dj'ing) and every roots of hiphop (funk, soul, afro-funk, samba.) His ear for rare, soulful music originated from breakdancing to the music of legendary funk artists such as Booker T and the MG's, Bob James and The Blackbyrds back in his high school era. During this time, he was introduced by a friend to some musical instruments that will seal the deal for his love of spinning, a pair of Tech 12's and a Gemini mixer. After grazing his fingers for the first time to a spinning record on a turntable platter, the rest is history. It was love at first scratch. His passion for spinning has grown into an addiction after meeting DJ Loke in his old job, and soon enough the two became dj/skratch partners, thus forming a group called B-dubs. DJ Cheeba has played in places such as Gypsy Co-op, NASA, Fressen and the Fuse Lounge for many people who has the same affinity for soulful hiphop and funk as he does. After a long hiatus, DJ Cheeba is coming back to grace the ears of the masses with music filled with depth and soul.
